North East Museums (formerly Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums)
North East Museums (formerly Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums) is a major regional museum, art gallery and archives service. We manage a collection of twelve museums and galleries across Tyneside and Northumberland as well as the Archives for Tyne and Wear and attract 1.3 million annual visits.
We are supported by the five local authorities in Tyneside, Northumberland County Council and Newcastle University. We are a National Portfolio Organisation funded by Arts Council England.
We hold collections of international importance in archives, art, science and technology, archaeology, military and social history, fashion and natural sciences.
We have been involved in most of the NGCV initiatives and we have led steering groups for the following: the Insider (a pioneering collective audience development initiative involving e-marketing using the principle of shared market over market share), Family Explorers (an audience development project targeting families, based on peer recommendation); the Communications group (sharing learning and strategic planning around communications and audience developmen
